I have been thinking a lot about creativity, lately. I think what made me start pondering what it means to be creative is my daughter had to do write a paper at school on where they come from. Let me share a few of the lines...
Where I'm From
I am from paintbrushes,
From smelly oils and acrylics,
I am from saw dust.
from a pounding hammer,
I am from a family who does everything by hand....
I tell you I cried when I read this. It is so true. Her father and I are very creative~
Anyway, back to my thought on creativity, when people use to tell me "You are so creative" or "I love that. How did you do it?" I would always just shy away. Now I am learning that creativity comes from within us, our roots, our family genes. We need to be proud of it! It is what makes us, us! Smile really big when someone says your work is great. Say, "Thank You. I really enjoyed doing it". The more pride you take in your work the better it will become. You will have more confidence in yourself and let's face it, we all love to be complimented.
And as for my daughter, she is 13 and as she is getting older she is beginning to find where her true creativness lies. Yes, I tried to pursue her in certain directions of things I enjoy but making a pendant will spark her enthusiasm for about a minute and the she will be off writing and doodling in her sketch journal. She loves to draw and write. I can't draw nothing, but her Dad can. I love to write, her Dad can't. The two combined, (sketch journal), makes her, her.
For the creative ones out there ~Embrace it! Enjoy it! Love it! Best of All, Share it!
~the rest of the Punkey's assignment:
...I'm from cold sprinklers in the summer
From snow days in the winter.
I'm from knowing your right, even when you're wrong
I'm from "Nute Nacks" (fruit snacks) and peanut-butter bananas.
I am from a big backyard, that gets smaller every year,
I am from a town, that I eventually found out wasn't so big.
I am from a bundle of memories,
Big and small, new and old.
I am from memories that will last forever.
"Fury" A painting of mine and I LOVE IT!
